Ideas to Brighten Your Home during November!

If you need some suggestions to make your home your ‘comfort zone’ as November gets colder and before the fun of December and the holidays, here are a few ideas to inspire your creativity:

Jewel Tones. Bright jewel colours are oh-so popular right now – on walls, furniture, accessories, and rugs – just about everywhere. The trend is to use one colour across multiple elements, even colour on colour like emerald green draperies on an emerald green wall. Or if you prefer, use several jewel tones in combination. Believe it or not, sapphire blue, emerald green and fuchsia can all blend! Lastly, if you prefer a subtle approach, you can limit your ‘jewel infusion’ to accessories and perhaps a single piece of vibrant furniture.

New Metallics. There’s no end in sight to the metallics trend! What’s wonderful is that you can mix metallics for an eclectic look. This season, rose golds and silver are the new favourites. Perfect timing! Rose gold will add warmth while silver brings sparkle to the mix to brighten your space. Don’t forget that accent lighting and mirrors will really make metallics glow. Experiment!

Brightly Patterned Wall. Once upon a time, a wall painted a solid bright colour was the recommended way to inject a pop of colour. This season, consider a bright wall in a pattern! Whether you opt for wallpaper in a bright floral or geometric or do it yourself with a paint effect, it’s fun and fresh. Echo the pattern and colour in your accessories for extra interest!

New Coffee Table. With the holidays coming next month, set the stage for entertaining with a gorgeous new coffee table. The choices are endless – round or rectangle, glass topped, with metallic accents (on trend!), distressed wood, even choose a trunk style coffee table with rugged vintage appeal.

A Touch of the Tropics. One of the simplest ways to beat the cold weather is to treat your space to some tropical plants. Choose what’s best for the conditions you have, buy a pretty shelf or two and enjoy! If you’re adventurous, create a terrarium, you can find how-to guidelines online – or even grow orchids for sensational colour.

Layering. Not just for winter fashion, layering in your home is perfect for cool November days and nights. Now’s the time to bring on the throws and pillows! Knits and crochets are popular (with a chunky retro vibe) as well as faux fur. Plaids and animal/nature motifs are also showing up everywhere!  Even rugs are being layered this fall! Start with a neutral sisal base and then add pops of colour and texture. To keep it cohesive, choose rugs of similar fabrication/construction and colours that blend. Be sure to leave space around the layers to provide a ‘frame’.  12 inches is a good place to start.

Brighten your home and make the most of the season ahead!
